Vision Therapy for Refractive Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)

EXPANDING ACCESS TO CARE

For those with Refractive Amblyopia (Lazy Eye), finding advanced Vision Therapy can be frustrating due to travel barriers. To help remove these travel barriers, we are pleased to offer our Advanced Vision Therapy remotely with our new Vision Therapy program. This revolutionary model of care includes our  Vision Therapy, coupled with one-to-one interaction with Doctor and Vision Therapists.

WHAT IS REFRACTIVE AMBLYOPIA?

When a child is unable to focus both eyes together, as a team, during early childhood development, the brain turns off or suppresses the incoming signals from the affected eye. With Refractive Amblyopia, one eye has significantly uncorrected nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. When this happens, the brain favors the eye with better vision and shuts off or suppresses the weaker eye. See our Amblyopia page to learn more about this condition.

WHAT MAKES OUR TELETHERAPY UNIQUE?

While Vision Therapy is becoming more common as a way to connect the doctor and the patient remotely, what makes iSight Eye Hospital’s Vision Therapy unique is our virtual reality (VR) platform. With this technique, we connect to our patients with Doctor remotely using our Vision Therapy platform. During each video call session, we provide individualized and targeted vision therapy with our advanced Vision Thrapy. Our advanced VisionTherapy program allows patients to experience vision therapy treatment as if they were right in our office.

PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

To qualify for our Vision Therapy program, patients must:

  • Be between the ages of 5-60 years old

  • Have a formal diagnosis of Refractive Amblyopia

  • NOT have an eye turn, cross-eye, or wandering eye (Strabismus)

  • Have a comprehensive eye health and vision evaluation within 24 months (Required before starting treatment) 

  • Live in India

BEFORE STARTING TREATMENT

Before starting treatment, you will need to contact our office to schedule an initial TeleHealth Consultation with the doctor. To do this, call on 972-716-2004 during regular office hours, or you may fill out our contact sheet, and we will follow up with you.

During your introductory call with our office, one of our Patient Care Coordinators will work with you to gather your Ophthalmic Records and Medical History information. At this time, we also schedule your TeleHealth Vision Therapy Consultation with a Doctor and collect the fee needed for this appointment.

TELEHEALTH VISION THERAPY CONSULTATION

After we receive all your records, our doctor will meet with you via a Zoom Video Call. During this video call, the doctor will review your ophthalmic records and medical history information, gain additional history and clinical information, and perform additional tests. After analyzing your information, the doctor will determine if you are a candidate for this program and answer any questions you might have. If you or your child qualifies, the doctor will go over all the equipment we ship to you as part of your treatment, including a Device. This device will connect you or your child with our Doctor/Therapist team, allowing us to provide your individualized treatment program.

Directly following your TeleHealth Consultation with the doctor, you will speak with one of our Patient Care Coordinators who will outline all treatment costs, payment options and answer any other questions you may have.

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT – TREATING LAZY EYE AT HOME

During the TeleTherapy appointments, our Vision Therapist assigns various activities, runs diagnostic testing, and assesses your progress. After each month of treatment, your doctor reviews and meets with your Vision Therapist to go over your treatment progress and any recommendations they may have.
